vi·ri vir·tu·tes :: men of virtue
What is Viri Virtutes
Modern culture today is very confused about the nature of men and women, often seeing them as opposed to each other rather than complementary. Our Catholic tradition has a much broader view of the nature of the person: God made us all in His likeness—the Imago Dei, and created us men and women. What does it mean to be made a man (a male) in God’s image? What are the universal characteristics of manhood created by God? How do we enter into or grow in our vocation as men? How do we fulfill our ultimate destiny of becoming saints? These some of the essential questions we intend to discuss in the Viri Virtutes course.
Viri Virtutes (Latin for “men of virtue”) is a 14-week formation program for men, single or married, under the age of 30. The larger goals of the program themes are helping the men to overcome sinful habits, deepening the spiritual life. The course content is designed to enable an encounter with Jesus Christ, formation in authentic masculinity, and replacing vices with the virtues. We also encourage the participants to become friends and brothers in Christ, willing to offer fraternal support.
